if you had said this to me even just 4 years ago, I would've disagreed with you. I would have said the point of working was to make money, pay my bills, and fun was for extracurricular activities.
That was until I met Dan. He was one of the most fun people I knew, Australian, and super relaxed. Fun was definitely one of his core values, and he taught me the value of celebration. Working with him changed my mindset about work, and that it didn't have to be this serious, intense thing. Instead of working out of a place of striving, I felt I was working out of a large reservoir of energy, which came because I was having fun in the process.
I had read Tim Keller's "Every Good Endeavor" years ago, and as a Christian it showed me how work could be a way to impact the world for good, and I loved that and it gave my work meaning. But I still had this false idea that work had to be difficult, intense, and I would've never used the word "fun" to describe it until I saw how fun carries you along.
Find one thing that makes work fun today. Is it your fun colleague? Is it making beautiful graphics? Is it racing with the clock to finish a project? You can become an agent of change for your workplace to prioritize fun, and it'll drive up revenue, I guarantee it.
